Once ...

In the hot silence
while he slept
and only the flies sang
she made the basket
strong with love
to hold this one most precious thing
and gave it, dry-eyed,
to the waiting flood.

Wow! V. impressed with poem and photo. We did it too as you'll know. Our reeds lay down in protest but that allowed the wee boats to be smuggled in among them which seemed quite apt. The accompanying mini-sermon included the invitation to dare to 'float on God's grace'. Lovely!

Thank you both! I have, however, to confess: the photo is KB's; I clipped it from her blog.
